Well now that Entropia Universe is well into VU10, I thought that it was about time that I made a new up to date trailer for YouTube. So after hours of running, and over 30 minutes, 13 Gb of total video, I ended up putting together a nice little trailer that I think represents Entropia Universe pretty well.
Flash, Java and other web based games have been growing in popularity since the first one came out, and to be honest most of them are total crap. Just search for some and you’ll see how utterly horrible and unoriginal most of them are! But every once in a while someone thinks up of an idea so great and original that it’s amazing, and the Falling Sand Game is a testimony to how great originality can really be, and how far it can go. Now… How fun could a game called Falling Sand Game be? Well, you’d be surprised! The whole game is centered on particles of different substances, and physics. Each substance has different properties, and reacts with other substances differently, for example; oil burns, plant grows when it is in contact with water, salt desolves in water… You really have to experiment with the different elements to really understand how everything works. You pretty much do what you want, you can create environments, set fire to things, spawn zombies… If you actually download the game you can load different modifications coded by other people, or make your own, witch change the physics, make new elements, change how they react… The possibilities are endless really. If you need examples of what can be done, just YouTube it and you’ll find stuff created by other people. I find it great because you can download it for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and with the web based versions, you can probably run it on many other devices. So its a great little game to play when your bored, at school, work, or wherever you’re supposed to be paying attention. If you want to dive deeper in the whole Falling Sand subculture, or want to find all sorts of mods/versions of the game you can always go to the official site, and join the forums to talk with other fan of the game. So if you have a few minutes to spare, you should go and check this one out, you might be happy you did! Link to site Here.
Well to keep with the topic of all the YouTube stuff I’ve been doing lately, I’m posting about EntropiaTube. So what exactly is EntropiaTube? Well its a brand new YouTube group that I have made for members of the Entropia Universe community! Anything from ads for in-game services/events, tutorials, to random stuff you managed to capture can be posted on the group page, and viewed by people who are actually interested in what you have. This could also be a great way to host video creation contest, and other YouTube events. Anyone is welcome to join and add videos, and every member is essential to the EntropiaTube’s success. So if your one of the thousands of people playing Entropia Universe, or if you want to get in on the action, you can join EntropiaTube, and help make it the number one place for all your Entropia Universe video needs! You can find us here. We also need a logo of sorts, so I might hold a contest on EF if I can get enough EFD.
Well I’ve been a member of YouTube for quite a while now, about three years, and I have been using it since the start. In the time that I uploaded my first video to now, one has been deactivated, and several muted for copyrighted content. This is usually caused by the music I used. But today I decided to do a little cleaning, and fixing on my YouTube profile, so all the videos that nobody seemed to like are gone, and all the problem songs have been replaced with audio-swap. Now audio-swap itself isn’t a very good feature, you can’t do any editing to the song and you can only use one song per video so that just sucks. This however is just temporary I hope. This is all part of my goal to become a better YouTuber. So from now on, ill try to use as little copyrighted songs as possible. I will also be making my own video soundtracks, hopefully with a little help from my friend’s band. And now I will be spending a little more time on the post production end of my videos to hopefully make them flow and look a bit better. But probably the biggest change that I’m trying is becoming a YouTube partner. I sent my application, and hopefully they accept. This will let me add some nice graphics and custom content to my profile, and video pages, witch might attract potential viewers, and subscribers. The YouTube partnership program comes with a ton of nice features that help promote your videos as well so I might get some more views on the way. So thats about it on my quest to being a better YouTuber, so don’t forget to check my channel to see what’s new.
Well we all heard about the Swagbucks widget right? Well if not, that’s ok. It’s a nice little flash app that lets you access some of the SwagBucks features from any site you post it on, it also helps to attract referrals. The only problem I have with this widget, is that it’s kinda annoying, to have to launch your internet browser, go on Facebook or wherever you have it, just to look for a code, especially when Mac OSX comes with a dashboard full of widgets that are right there at the press of a button. But don’t give up on the SwagBucks widget just yet! If your a Mac user, all you need to do is to have your widget posted on any site. Facebook, Twitter, WordPress… Whatever you want. Now once you are at your widget in Safari, go to File, Open in Dashboard. Click on your widget, and you’ll see that safari highlights it. Click on add in the top right corner of the window, and voila your done! The widget should be now in your dashboard readily available at a moments notice. Searching for codes have never been so quick and easy!
If you ever used iTunes on Windows then you’ll notice that it really sucks! But that’s Windows right? On Mac, iTunes really isn’t that bad, because it works well with all the other features in the OS. But the one big drawback is that is built for iPods and iPods only. So if you want to sync your “non iPod” MP3 player then forget about it. Wait a minute! Don’t do that, I found a neat little app that will help you make your iTunes a little more useful. ITunesMyWalkman is a nice little app that lets you use iTunes to sync your MP3 player! This will work for any device that works as a removable drive, so not only MP3 players, but Cell Phones, Memory Card, Flash Drives… You name it! So to get started just download the app from here, and install it. Still with me? Then once the program is running, I would recommend installing the iTunes script. This will add a menu to your iTunes. Ok now go to iTunes, and you’ll see a new menu button next to “Window”, it looks like some “S” or something. In your iTMW preferences, make sure that the program syncs from the right playlist, the output folder is set up to your external device, and all the settings are how you want them. You can select to make playlists, even convert all the audio files to MP3 for compatibility. Now that everything seems good, close that, and in your iTMW menu, hit synchronies, and let it go, in a few minutes, you will have a nicely synced MP3 player. You can have it sync automatically when your device is plugged in, and has a few nice features that really make this a nice app. So get it today, did I mention that it’s free?
Well if you enjoyed using your RockBand Drum Set as a virtual set on Windows… Well good for you! I Personally thought it lagged too much, sounded horrible, and just sucked overall. But if you’re cool enough to own a Mac, you’re also cool enough to own the best RockBand virtual drum set in the land. First you need a RockBand drum set (I know it’s a big surprise). Here’s a little note… I only tried this on the RockBand 1 set, so I don’t know if it works on any of the others, but if it has a usb connection it should. Second you need GarageBand, that (if you have a Mac) should have came with your system, and last but not least you need a little app called GamePad Companion. It’s a really nice app, and an essential if you’re planning to do any gaming with a controller. It lets you assign gamepad keys to keyboard buttons (much like Joy2Key). Ok so now that you have installed everything (and updated Garage Band ideally)… Start up Garage Band, select Keyboard Collections when it asks you what you want to do, and then ether create a new track, or change the default one to a drum kit, any one choice will do. Once you have your kit set up, go to Window, then musical typing. This should bring up a window with a few keyboard keys, if you hit the corresponding keys you should hear drum sounds (among other random sounds). Use the little keyboard above all that to choose different setups for your kit. Once you find one you like, make a note of what key plays what drum. Then with your Drum Kit plugged in, go to System Preferences witch is in your apple menu, find GamePad Companion way on the bottom. In it you will find all the settings you can mess around with. Select your Drum Set from the list of controllers, and start hitting the different pads to find out what buttons are what. Using the settings assign each drum pad to the keyboard key that plays whatever drum you want it to play in GarageBand. Once all this is done, with out closing GamePad Companion go back to GarageBand, and with musical typing activated, hit the drum pads, you will now be playing the drums OMG! If one or a few of them do not work, just make sure the right kets are assigned in GamePad Companion. This is by far the best way to use the Rock Band Drum Set as a Virtual Drum Set. You can even record yourself playing to your favorite songs with no lag!

Well PS3’s, aren’t known to break down much, but after about 2 years mine finally did. One day I went to turn it on so I put the switch in the back on, and you’ll never guess what happened? Absolutely nothing! There was no red power light, not even a yellow light saying that there was something wrong. I started trying a few easy solutions like switching power cords, trying different plugs… Until I ran out of ideas, and nothing worked. I did a bit of searching, and found out that it was probably a problem with the PSU (Power Supply Unit). I went to look through some old papers only to find out that my warranty has run out about a 6 months ago, so sending it to Sony was out of the question. Anyways I was now stuck with 3 possible solutions, leave it like that (lame), buy a new PS3 (expensive), or try to fix it my self (great idea). So I took it apart, found the PSU, and tested it with some circuit testers, that showed me that the second half of the power supply was most likely dead. A quick search on eBay showed me that I could buy a new one for around $30 to $40, but that would be a risk, buying it only to find out that the PSU wasn’t the problem… So I just left it like that for a while, the time passed, and I had almost given up on it when one of my friends got his hands on a broken PS3. There was something wrong with the blue ray drive, and he was making a laser lighter with the blue ray laser, so I decided to take the power supply from that one and put it in mine to see how it would work. I put it in, turned it on, and now guess what happened? It worked fine. All my files are still there, so the HDD wasn’t damaged, witch was my biggest concern. So now I got a good as new PS3 and I fixed it for free, just in time to move too!
What could be more fun that staying up all night with a group of friends, and playing some good old video games? Well thats exactly what we did yesterday night/today morning, quite a few people showed up, more than I expected. Heres the the list of everything that we played:
Entropia Universe, Second Life, Eudemons Online, Grand Theft Auto IV, Motorstorm, Far Cry 2, Call of Duty: World at War, Playstation Home, Spore, and the traditional Unreal Tournament 1.
However not all of them were multiplayer and/or played over LAN, but it was great fun anyways, despite some quite annoying network problems. We also spent an ungodly amount of time watching videos on youtube, and surfing fail blog/FML witch was an interesting and quite comical change. There was little sleeping, that was an other surprise, witch all made this LAN party, one of the best so far! We did some video filming as well, but… I have my doubts that anyone would (and should) post it on YouTube, or anywheres else. All in all, this whole event was a great success, where everyone went home exhausted and happy.
