Pocket Legends

There are so many free MMO’s on the internet, it was just a matter of time one made it to our mobiles. Pocket Legends is a free MMORPG made for iPhone, iPad, and android devices. It’s a realy basic RPG with all the features of a full size computer one. To start off you can pick from 3 classes, all the caracters are animals. You get to chose from warrior, archor, and mage. There’s a whole bunch of levels to go to and gear to buy when you level up. You can progress through most of the game for free, but if you want to save some time you can purchase in game platnum. This currentcy you can use to buy special gear and caracter mods unavailabe with gold. If you don’t want to purchase platnum, you can earn a bit for free by downloading some of the apps they have on there list. All in all it’s a great little game that you can play at work. If you want to try it out, it’s available for free on the app store.

A while back I used to be in a parkour team called the Four Faces of the World. We had a website, a forum, and a bunch of crazy members from all over. After a while the members moved away to other things and the forum went into inactivity and eventually was deleted. I forgot about the whole thing for the longest time but the other day when a friend mentioned the subject I decided to start the forum back up myself along with two of the original members. Were hoping to start a community of local people who are into parkour, freeruning and tricking around Halifax. Although we have forums for discussions about cars, gaming, movies… You can join the community at www.ffw-crew.tk or www.ffw-forums.tk.

YouTube Update

I haven’t updated my blog in a while so here’s an update of my new YouTube videos since last time.

Metallica Live in Halifax. Metallica came to halifax so I had to go see. I managed to record all of one including all the crazy pyrotechnics in the intro.

Headless Triceratops V.S. Velociraptor. A quick video of one of many glitches from the game Trespasser.

And my newest one. This is a short montage I shot during my stay at the Kejimkujic National Park and Historic Site. It’s a great park and well worth staying a few nights if you’re in the area.

RC Cars VS Skate Park

We went down to the Halifax Commons Skate Park the other day to do a bit of BMX riding. There wasn’t anyone there since it had been raining, but shortly after we arrived a few guys showed up wit a some RC cars. It was an entertaining few hours, those cars can really take a good beating. Anyways I ended up shooting quite a lot on my GoPro that day, enough to make a decent video. So here it is… Enjoy!

iPhone 4

Well I found myself in need of a cell phone for work so I went shopping. After a bit of looking around I decided to get an iPhone 4, and to see what all the fuss was about. My first impression as with all Apple products is that the packaging was great. The phone looks great too, clean, shiny, just like any other apple device. The greatness desn’t just stop at the packaging ether, the iPhone 4 is one of the most usefull devices on the market, a veritable digital swiss army knife. Besides the basic talk and text functions of the phone witch are pretty basic, there are tens of thousands of free and paid apps waiting in the app store. Anything from GPS, to games, tools, to mobile banking… Need a flashlight? It has one, want a portable piano? It can do that too. There are just too many to list off in one shot. Now enough about the apps, there are plenty of other things to talk about. Like the retina display that works almost as great as it looks. The touch screen is super responsive and sensitive, you hardly have to press it at all to use it. The phone also has two cameras, a five mega pixel one on the back with an LED flash for photos and videos, and a smaller one on the front for video chat using Face Time and apps liken Skype. The external speakers sound decent for playing music, and other audio. I think the worst part of the whole deal is that you need to use itunes to add anything like music or videos to your phone, but thats pretty much worth it when you look at what you get. The battery life is also not the greatest, but what do you expect from something this small and powerful? So if you find yourself in need of a phone that does more for you, you might want to take a look at the iPhone 4, you might just like it, I know I did. Moving On…

Most gamers got turned off motion control gaming the second it came out. The concept sounds great, play a game by moving around… simple. The only problem is that they never seem to work that way. Witch is why I was skeptical about the all new Playstation Move. I finally got around to getting one and for once a motion controller surpassed my expectations. The controller itself looks like a wand with a white rubbery table tennis sized ball on the end of it. It has all the standard buttons with the exception of the shoulders, triggers, and joysticks. It also features two totally new buttons, the Move button and the T (trigger) button. The ball on end of the controller uses a set of RGB LED’s to create any colour and does a good job at producing super vibrant colours, but that’s not just for show. The reason behind why the Move is so great is that it uses the Playstation Eye camera to track the controllers. Witch means the move could actually have the ability to track your whole body as well as the controllers. The camera distinguishes witch controller is witch by looking at what colour it is, this enables you to use two controllers simultaneously in each hand, or have a whole bunch on the go in multiplayer games. The motion tracking is very smooth and doesn’t jitter around the screen like some of the others, it is also very precise. The Playstation Move set comes with a Move controller, a Playstation Eye, and the game Sports Champions. The game itself is really just a demonstration to show you the capabilities of the Move. It’s very similar to the Wii Sports game that came with the Wii. It’s pretty much just a few mini games thrown together, nothing outstanding but the archery and gladiator duel games are kinda fun. If you want to do any real gaming with the move you will need to get yourself the navigation controller, much like the nun chuck it has a joystick and a few buttons on it to make navigating games much easier, but you can also use one of your Six Axises for that. From what I’ve experienced, the Playstation Move is hands down the best motion controller to come out so far, and hopefully creates some equally awesome games to go with it. A few games that I’m excited for are Little Big Planet 2, and Sorcery, but there are tonnes more coming. So if you want to experience motion control gaming like it should, go and get yourself the Playstation Move.

Just a funny video that we filmed one night at a friends house. I really don’t think that it needs much explanation honestly… As a group effort were trying to get as many views as possible on it but I don’t know how well it will work. In other news I’m working on a new Entropia Universe video about the current Harbinger event but until then enjoy the Toke Station.

Entropia Universe: New Changes

Well it’s been a while since I wrote anything here… Honestly I’ve been busy and I haven’t been doing much with the tech world. But I decided to take this time to write once again about Entropia Universe. EU is my game, I rarely play anything else other than a few games on Steam. And lately it’s been going through some pretty nice changes. The biggest, most anticipated one was the release of vehicles. And now not only can you drive on land with Humvees and Dune Buggies but you can also cruise around with boats and hover crafts, and even take on the air with planes. There is a new area in-game made entirely for new players entitled the Gateway. It’s a place where new players can learn the game at their own pace without older ones running around. There are a pile of new quests fit for everyone from “straight off the ship” newbs to the most hard-core of players. The capital city of Calypso, Port Atlantis has been totally rebuilt along with its surroundings. PA is now more like a real city with skyscrapers, streets, and even a marina! Outside of the city, Swamp Camp has been fully revamped as well. Now it’s a real swamp, and is more reminiscent of how it used to be with the trees, water, and mob spawns. It’s closer to the city as well so it’s a nice change. The whole section of the map looks stunning, and really takes advantage of the Cry Engine 2. An other addition worth noting is the deserted island off the shores of PA with a cove and a camp fire, an instant “perfect party spot” for AHR. The updates have been coming fast in the last month and hopefully will continue for some time. But if you haven’t seen the new changes in Entropia Universe, or haven’t even played before, you should check it out. You might be in for a surprise.

A while ago Valve released Steam for Mac OSX and have ever since been periodically re-releasing there current games to work on the platform. I’m a Mac user and a huge Valve fan so you can imagine that I was beyond excited to hear that, and even more so when I found out that all the games I already had on Windows would run on Mac free of charge! Since then I have been gaming a lot on Mac to test it out and see how it works and I’m impressed. I’ve even played through all of Half Life 2. There still are a few problems that affect performance and sound quality so you won’t be enjoying all the maxed out video setting and blazing high frame-rates that you would on Windows but that will change in the coming months. Valve Nvidia and Apple have been working together to fix these problems and come out with new drivers more compatible with gaming. I really think this a step in the right direction since Steam is such a big platform in the gaming industry this will hopefully open the door to more mainstream gaming for Mac. Never know we might all be uninstalling our Bootcamp partitions in a few years!

Life in a Day

If you go on YouTube at all you would have heard surely about Life in a Day. Life in a Day is a huge user-generated documentary being produced for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and is filmed entirely on the 24th of July 2010. The sweet thing about this is that the entire movie is filmed by YouTube users around the world so anyone has a chance at this. I obviously had to give this a shot.

This video follows Me and my friend Nick’s day (yes an other Nick). We had a whole day already planned for the 24th following the SeaFest activities in Yarmouth Nova Scotia so it made for an interesting video. It might not be the most exciting video ever but it documents our day very well and I think it answers the questions asked by Life in a Day. I can’t wait to see this documentary once it’s done.
